How Walking can save you Money
I don’t know about your city, but in Los Angeles, the average price per gallon of gas is over $4.50.
Because my neighborhood is “walkable”, it’s easier for me to walk to the post office, grocery store, library, cleaners, gym, etc.
I walk this route about seven times per week, so I’ll save approximately $1.00 per week.
On an annual basis this amounts to $52.
What could I spend that money on?
Health care
Per annum, overweight increases the yearly medical costs per person $125, while obesity increases costs by $395.
When totaled, $395 + $52= $447.
So by walking 7 miles per week, I’m able to get my exercise, which, in turn, helps me manage my weight, so I could end up saving $395 plus, $52 in gas costs.
What are you weighting for?
Another fact walking 1 mile is that it equates to about 2,000 steps–which is 20% of 10,000 steps per day.
So walking 1 mile equates to $52, walking 5 miles (10,000 steps), equals $260 per year.
Thus, when totaled, $395 + $260 = $655 per year.
By walking 35 miles per week, I’m able to get my recommended exercise, which helps prevent overweight and obesity, thus saving $665 per year.
Times may be tough, but that’s when the tough get going, because
After all, it’s about a healthy lifestyle!
